Estate Le Case di Civi - Mascali/Etna
Since the highest volcano of Europe is in a stage of continuing activity, we pursue the wish of many Sicily travellers, who look for a good basic position for observation and excursions to the mountain.
At the same time the favorable location nearby the sea of this 10 hectare manor allows comfortable trips to Taormina (only about 15 km), to the amazing landscape of the lava canyon of Alcantara (ca. 20 km), to Catania (about 30 km) or Syracuse (about 90 km). And what about a trip with the lovely ancient light railway along the slopes of the Mount Etna? The villages in this region are popular for their excellent wine (outstanding producers between Linguaglossa and Randazzo!) and their old chestnut woods.
The old manor "Le Case di Civi" is located nearby the little Etna Villages of Santa Venera (1,5 km, Trattoria-Pizzeria „La Spiga“ with typical sicilian cuisine) Mascali (about 3 km, shops and restaurants, completely rebuilt after the volcanic eruption of 1928), S. Alfio and Piedimonte at the eastern slopes of the Mout Etna, which offer an amazing view over the sea on one side and over the volcano on the other side. At the same time, the manor in light sloping site (about 150 m difference in altitude), is embedded in a peerless beautiful and lush vegetation of citrus and fruit trees, which expands up to the sea, about 5 km away. The terraces of all apartments are supported by old lava stone walls. Ample beaches (gravel and sand) are to be found at Fiumefreddo (about. 5 km, natural reserve, blue flag for excellent water quality) and Fondachello (about. 6 km, good beach infrastructures).
The marina Riposto is only 6 km away, horse-riding is possible in the surroundings (about. 10 km), golf course in Picciolo (about 20 km). Also in winter the manor is a comfortable basic position for skiing at the Etna!
The 5 lavishly restored houses are located on a wide ground with old trees, which are newly and well equipped in sicilian country house style.
A little pool (9 m x 4,5 m x 1,2 m, in operating – depending on the wheather - from the beginning of may until about the end of october) offers refreshment on hot summer days; it also disposes of an ample sunbathing area (cultivated by a gardener) and a tennis court. The manor produces in organic farming its own wine, olive oil, fruit like citrus fruits and cherries, honey, marmelades, eggs and much more. These products are also selled to the guests.
On demand the congenial and friendly owner also buys for his guests fresh ingredients for breakfast (about 5 euro per person). At the arrival all guests receive a welcome present consisting of products of the manor.
