Casale Doria Pamphilj

Casale Doria Pamphilj has been a stately home of the aristocratic family Doria Pamphilj. Today it is the ownership of the descendants of this important Roman noble family. Moreover, the family is an important part of the Roman Renaissance history because of the fact that one Pope and many cardinals are descended from it.

This country estate is situated directly at the gates of Rome, near the most north-western fringe of the city, in the small area of Testa di Lepre. The distance to the city centre of Rome is only about 20km. The train connection with Rome is also very favourable. The train from the nearby situated railway station Maccarese/Fregene goes to Rome on average every 30 min. As a result, you can reach the station S. Pietro within 15 min, the station Trastevere some minutes later and the main railway station Roma Termini within 30 min. What is more, many other important tourist attractions such as the Etruscan town Cerveteri, wonderful bathing lake Lago di Bracciano or the beautiful sandy beaches between Fregene, Ladispoli and Santa Marinella are only 12-40km away. Despite of the small distance between these beaches and the metropolis, the water in the sea is really clean there. 

In the fact this property is a small “borgo”: in front of the entrance to the main building there is a small village square surrounded by different, currently not used, outbuildings. On request you can even celebrate a wedding or a baptism in the small church that is on the area of the estate.

This old Casale was carefully restored over the past few years but the old structure of a building was nearly completely preserved: its facade remained untouched, the old rooms of this former homestead (vaulted cellar, granary etc.) behaved their original appearance and only their use was changed, for example into a bar or a breakfast room. One seldom sees such an old property that is both a modern accommodation with all conceivable amenities and an old estate with original appearance and charm. 

All 11 housing units of the estate are on the first floor (elevator available) of the wing:

3 Standard Rooms: living area, bathroom, mezzanine with a double bed and a single bed. One of the rooms handicapped accessible: with a sleeping area on the ground floor.

4 Superior Apartments: large living area and bathroom on the ground floor, mezzanines with a double bed and 2 single beds. 

4 Family Apartments: contrary to the previous housing units, the bathroom, sleeping area and an additional separated sleeping room are on the lower level and the living area is on the mezzanine. 

All apartments and rooms offer a small kitchenette with a fridge, kettle, and tableware as standard. The guests of apartments may get an upgrade (stand-alone induction models and cookware) for a small extra charge.

The old original timber ceilings and gables were preserved by the renovation. Apart from that, all flats have big windows and a separate entrance door directly from the colonnade in the inner courtyard. The spacious open lounge is located over the colonnade between the flats.

On the ground floor there are (apart from the reception) other spacious rooms which in case of a bad weather are used as restaurant or for different festivities. By fine weather the guests can enjoy their meals in the inner courtyard. On the ground floor of the wing, opposite to the flats, there is a bar which offers a breakfast buffet and tasty home made cakes.

The inner courtyard is romantically laid, with many flowers, bushes and a big lawn with deckchairs, table tennis and table football. Additionally, it features a wonderful view of a hilly landscape. 

Behind the side wing with a bar; i.e. so far away that it cannot be seen from the flats, there is a large garden area with a swimming pool, play units for children and a huge lawn also used for different festivities such as weddings, baptisms, meetings etc. 

The meals in the Casale have been cooked exclusively from the regional ecological ingredients. The gourmet- and star-cook is honoured by his traditional 4-course-meals that can be reserved either already by booking of an accommodation or directly at the spot at a fixed price of Euro 25,-.

The restaurant is open only at the weekend or on request. Alternatively, this 4-course-meal can be served under the same conditions in the nearby situated (8km) Tenuta with the same kitchen management team.

The tourist tax "tassa di soggiorno": 1,50  Euro per person and per day (for the guests between 11 and 70 years-old) is to be paid on the spot.
